I decided to write my very first post about a day that forever changed my life - the day I found out I got to spend the rest of my life with my most favorite person.
November 25, 2015.. I woke up thinking it was just like any other day, although I was excited to have taken the day off from work. I woke up that morning and decided I wanted to repaint my bathroom.. "Lavender Suede" by BEHR. It would be the only room in my house that wasn't gray!
My family and I had recently lost my beautiful grandmother. We had been fortunate enough to not know this routine too well, which in turn blind-sided us all. I had been so involved in my thoughts and coping that I had no idea my sweet boyfriend had a surprise up his sleeve - a big surprise that would forever change our lives.
Carl-Michael decided he would take half the day off from work as well, and I didn't think twice considering it was the day before Thanksgiving. We were going to be traveling to west Texas on Thanksgiving day, and we had a few errands we needed to run.
When he arrived at my house for lunch, my plans seemed to throw him off a bit. Carl couldn't figure out why I randomly woke up and decided to paint my bathroom, and I couldn't figure out why it mattered. When he asked what my plans were for the rest of the day, I replied that I had a few errands to run after I repainted my bathroom, but I was in no rush. He kept telling me that I should go ahead and jump in the shower so that I could get my errands done before too late. I really couldn't figure out why he kept telling me to get in the shower-it had definitely been less than 24 hours since my last shower.. ha!
I finally jumped in the shower, on my own time. But when I got out, Carl was gone. I opened the bathroom door to a note laying on the hardwood floor. "Trust me" he wrote, with directions to an unknown location. "Bring an overnight bag. Go get your nails done and be there by 5:30 PM. I love you, Babydoll!"
Now, I know what you're thinking. OF COURSE he was going to propose! But let me tell you, after 7 years of dating, there were a time or two before that I thought it was happening and it didn't. So, I didn't want to give my hopes up. After all, it could just be a fun weekend getaway with my love, which would have been amazing too.
A few emotions ran through my head when I read the note. 1) I was mad he left without telling me he was leaving. 2) Could today be THE DAY I get engaged?!? 3) I hate not knowing where I'm going or what I'm supposed to wear. 4) I have a pretty cute boyfriend. 5) Play it cool.
So I got my nails done, packed a bag, paced around some and headed to this unknown location. I didn't tell anyone where I was going or what I was doing that night. I didn't want anyone to get in my head. This was between me and my soon to be fiancé.
I followed the directions and ended up at the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas. But I wasn't sure I was in the right place, so I circled the block a few times. The note Carl left me said to valet once I arrived, so I did and I went inside. I approached the front desk, and once I said my name, I was treated like a queen. They escorted me to a beautiful suite with champagne, chocolate covered strawberries and a beautiful view. The only thing missing was him! I found another note on the bed, along with my long black dress that Carl had recently tricked me into buying for a "company dinner". This note said "Get dressed, have some champagne and relax. Someone will come get you at 8:00 PM for dinner. I can't wait to see you!"

RELAX?!! How was I supposed to relax? For once in my life, I was early to something, so I had over 2 hours to kill in that suite alone. So, I got dress, redid my makeup twice, had some champagne, and..... paced around the room for an hour. I will admit I had a little dance party, but time was standing still. Finally, a knock on the door. I opened the door to the cutest elderly gentleman, who escorted me to dinner. The whole way down he was smiling ear to ear, and everyone in the place seemed to be staring at me. I suppose a few thoughts went through my head now that this might be an extra special occasion.
I was led to the hotel restaurant, and then escorted through multiple rooms. We stopped at the most beautiful wooden double doors, which were closed. The lady turned to me and smiled, and asked "Are you ready?!".
I was shaking by this point. I couldn't believe what was in front of me. Carl was standing in a candle-lit room in front of a beautiful fireplace.
Rose petals covered the ground. All I could think was that he was so handsome and I loved him so much! I walked over to him and he held my hands. He tried to start talking but I didn't let him get anything out before I told him how much I loved him and missed him that day. He laughed and began telling me how much he loved me. Before I knew it, he was down on one knee flashing the most amazing diamond ring I've ever seen. It even sparkled in the dark.
YES. YES. Yes a million times! He put the ring on my shaky finger and grabbed me tight. It was a dream. We had dinner, drinks and dessert. I didn't want the night to end!
The next morning, we had breakfast and then massages. Really, I was treated like a queen. I'm not sure how he pulled it all off, but it was perfect. He is an amazing man and I am so excited and thankful that I get to spend forever with him. I love you Carl-Michael Comer, with every piece of my heart! <3
